Who decides what we should build and what we should demolish. We have lost some great buildings, the townhall, the grand hotel, the north end of the station, pubs, department stores all with architectural merit. Then we have the civic centre an eyesore from the very start, it looked like a prison block ( designed by Sir Basil Spence ).

It's really well built to be in that good a condition.

Worked at Crowtree for a number of years. The footfall of people coming through the doors was up there with the biggest attractions in the Country. The events we ran attracted competitors and spectators from all over the world. There was a lot of history in that building……so sad to see it go!

It's sad that it isn't there anymore. Of course, it is part of the regeneration of Hendon and Grangetown, but once the gas works are gone, 2 massive parts of my life won't be there.

this is so so sad to see, as a teenager so many of my weekends were spent there, so many happy memories. 10p on the x13 from silksworth into town. it was a fab day out.

By any chance is the labour party in charge of the finances?

Used to play down there as a kid. A local lad used to ride his Lambretta through it. Happy times.

I was a pupil at Green Terrace Primary School which used to stand next door. I remember Crowtree being built in the 70's and going there for swimming lessons, lots of fond memories over the years. An afternoon's swim with friends, then across the road to Parkers for a bag of chips afterward. All gone sadly.

My grandad used to go down there during the air raids. He lived in Byker during the war, during his childhood. He once woke up and the air raid was over and the place was empty. They had left him sleeping. I’d love for them to clean it up and open it back to the public, it’s an important part of our local history.
